Set in South Carolina in 1964, the film is the moving tale of Lily Owens.
Lily Owens (Dakota Fanning) is a 14 year old girl that lives on a peach farm with her abusive father. When her mother dies when she is a toddler her father hires Rosaleen Daise (Jennifer Hudson) to be her stand in mother.
When Rosalees insults some racists that live in their town Lily takes her to a small town where she is convinced her mother used to live.
They go to live with three estranged sisters on on a honey farm and Lily learns what it is like to have a real family.
